5 Years of Fair Trade

May 20, 2019

In April, we celebrated 5 years of Fair Trade at The Little Traveler. Our collection of products made by farmers and craftspeople in socially and economically marginalized areas of the world has grown into the most extensive selection of Fair Trade goods in the Chicagoland area.

Fair Trade Fashion

You’ve shown us that you love Fair Trade fashions, so this season, you can find an even larger selection of beautiful styles. In the picture to the right, Elizabeth and Annette are both sporting Fair Trade fashions (Maggie's Organics and Fair Anita, respectively).

Maggie's Organics has been walking the Fair Trade walk since before anyone started calling it Fair Trade. The company is dedicated to the people working at every step of the process and believes in establishing long term relationships, sharing risks, and continually working to improve quality of product as well as quality of life.

Fair Anita is a Minneapolis-based social enterprise that's all about women investing in women. Annette's beautiful Fair Anita dress was handmade by women in Mexico City.

Based in Santa Cruz, California, Avatar Imports partners with Jhaindra Ghimire, a factory owner in Kathmandu, Nepal, to produce its fun, boho-chic designs in a manner that is socially, environmentally, and economically responsible, thus giving Nepali workers a chance to rise out of poverty and enjoy an improved standard of living.

Ethical fashions by Passion Lilie help reverse the cycle of poverty, offering fair wages, safe and healthy working conditions, and long-term employment to artisans in India.

Zambeezi Lip Balm sources organic beeswax from the vast Miombo forest of Zambia. This not only makes for a superior product, it provides a source of income to Bantu subsistence farmers that is kinder to the land and to the people than the alternatives of timber & strip mining.

The "Plus"

The + in our Fair Trade+ Gallery is for products that aren't Fair Trade but still do their part to make the world a better place.

Find great new styles of sandals by TOMS in our Fair Trade+ Gallery. For every pair sold, a child in need gets a new pair of shoes.
