The March of the Mill Children
October 10 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
$25.00 – $40.009am Breakfast | 10am Program
A Speech by Mother Jones
Betsey Means portrays Mary Harris Jones, better known as Mother Jones, one of America’s most effective labor organizers.
She was born into a world of deadly clashes between British soldiers and peasant farmers—including her own family. After immigrating to the United States, she watched helplessly as her husband and four children died of yellow fever. Out of these sorrows grew fierce compassion for the downtrodden.
For over 50 years, Mother Jones fought for better working conditions in coal mines, train yards, factories, and logging camps. In 1903, she brought public attention to the unspeakable crime of child labor by organizing a 125-mile march of striking textile workers, many of whom were children.
Program and optional breakfast will take place at Copper Fox.
