See's Candies at The Little Traveler
You can now buy See's Candies in Illinois at our Candy Shop! This iconic brand from California is now available right here in Geneva, IL—only at The Little Traveler. It's a perfect pairing because both businesses were founded in the same era, over 100 years ago. Charles A See opened his first candy shop in 1921. Subsequently, our founder Kate Raftery opened The Little Traveler just one year later in 1922.
History of See's Candies
When Charles See opened his first candy shop in Los Angeles in 1921, he used the original recipes of his mother, Mary See. He had a long-held dream to own his own candy business. Through a depression, war rationing, and an ever-expanding business, the company maintained its dedication to quality. Therefore, the business stood the test of time. That's why we're honored to be one of the few purveyors of See's Candies in Illinois.
Charles See was an early innovator of volume-discount pricing. During the Great Depression, he found a way to lower prices on large orders. As a result, the business survived at a time when many other candy makers were forced to close shop.
In 1939, the world discovered these delicious candies at the World's Fair in San Francisco. Visitors watched candy makers hand-dip bon-bons in a miniature candy kitchen.
Do you remember that hilarious episode of I Love Lucy where Lucy and Ethel couldn't keep up with the candy belt and stuffed their cheeks with chocolates? Beforehand, Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance visited a See's candy kitchen to learn about candy making and prepare for the show!
